Retrieval

Winnipeg, Plug In Artist-run Gallery, 1984

Three residential dwellings were constructed on three rented parking stalls in downtown Winnipeg. Retrieval was a response to the trend in downtown Winnipeg of replacing houses with parking lots to serve the expanding shopping and business sections of the Downtown area. Each house was constructed on a parking stall and each was made out of different materials representing various possible levels of investment of financial resources and labor. One was made of materials found in the dumpsters behind the adjacent office building. The second was made from traditional building materials and methods and the third was built from more eccentric and labor-intensive materials and construction methods.
